Storytelling in Disruptive Innovation
Jun

6:00 PM18:00

Storytelling in Disruptive Innovation

Market disruption is desired by innovators because it gives market entrants power. But new products that define entirely new categories break the status quo. While adding value they can also step on toes and put others at disadvantage.

What works to compel others to participate in new economic platforms?

How can innovators minimize the potential and likely backlash?

Storytelling matters. Properly done, this is listening to constituents and responding to their stories with stories. This panel is crucial because it brings people together to share why, what and how we should use storytelling in major disruptive innovation projects.

In this one-hour session (including audience Q&A), you will hear panelists answer specific questions of why innovation matters, where innovation is occurring today ( focus on blockchain and crypto projects but not to the exclusion of others) and how they are using story to communicate their messages.

The panel includes valued thought leaders from industry (enterprise and blockchain communities) and academia (conflict and communication expertise). They are led by a moderator with direct experience in the early stages of the Internet, when a revolution happened that stuck.

Details

Location - Node, 1011 Kearny Street, San Francisco

Date - June 11, 2019

Time - 6-8pm (doors open at 6, event starts at 6:30pm, networking at 7:30pm)

Moderator

Stewart Noyce - As a marketing professional launching the Internet in the early 90’s, Stewart Noyce learned what it takes to change the world and keep it changed.

Panelists

Erica Blair - As a branding consultant and blockchain advocate, Erica Blair connects visionary technology companies to their global audience through inspired leadership and powerful communication.

Byron Bland - As Associate Director of the Stanford Center for International Conflict and Negotiation, Byron Bland worked to build peace for over 30 years in areas of intractable conflict, including Northern Ireland and Palestine.

John-Michael Scott - From decades of project management experience in companies of all sizes, John-Michael Scott drives change and new product introductions to successful conclusion.

Cybele Zufolo Siegel - Dancer, teacher, actor and founder of Word Performances, Cybele Zufolo Siegel communicates a message to an audience with the soul of a passionate artist.

We Are Coming Untethered - Julie Albright at NODE

Join an intimate setting with author, Julie Albright. She will be talking about her newly published book and how we live in a complex world – a world where digital technologies have arguably created the biggest generation gap ever known.

A world where corporate missteps can quickly be amplified, as the Internet enables self-organizing behaviors to grow overnight in strength and number. Connected and empowered, everyday people have toppled governments and scuttled company’s bottom lines. Understanding these complexities is a must, particularly how the intertwined double helix of behavior and technology is enabling new behaviors, changing digital natives’ values and expectations, creating both new opportunities and new challenges.

Digital sociologist Julie Albright will join us to these changes, which she calls “coming untethered,” and her new book Left to Their Own Devices: How Digital Natives Are Reshaping the American Dream.

Dr. Albright is a digital sociologist who has spent her career exploring the digital transformation of society. She is a Lecturer at the Viterbi School of Engineering and the Applied Psychology Dept at the University of Southern California and is on the Board of Directors of Infrastructure Masons.

Julie has appeared as an expert on many national television programs including the Today Show, CNN, NBC Nightly News, Nat Geo, CBS, and NPR. She has also been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Time Magazine and Newsweek and many others. Her book new book explores how digital natives are “untethering” from traditional social structures and processes, while hyper-attaching to their devices and social media; called Left to Their Own Devices: How Digital Natives Are Reshaping the American Dream, published by Prometheus Books, and distributed by Penguin Random House.

Towards Immutable Design: How Blockchain Changes (Almost) Everything About Design

Please join fellow Bay Area entrepreneur Matt Cutler, founder & CEO of Blocknative (www.blocknative.com), for a 120 minute interactive discussion focused on how blockchain forces a foundational rethinking of Design – and just how early we are in this process. Expansive in scope, the discussion will range from private keys and wallet types to story telling and modern mythology.

Who this is for: Entrepreneurs who are interested in diving deeper into the countless ways that blockchain-based technologies intersect with the human experience – in ways both modern and ancient.

About your guide: Blocknative is the seventh startup (!!) Matt has cofounded. He’s from Boston but moved to the Bay Area in 2014 after Cisco bought his last company. He’s @mcutler on most major social media platforms, including Twitter, Linked, Facebook, and Medium. Matt lives in Marin with his wife, three kids, and two dogs.
